BISHOP ROBERT RABBAT DD
The Melkite Catholic Eparchy of Australia, New Zealand and All Oceania operates as a corporate entity―Melkite Catholic Eparchy Corporation―governed by its Constitution and overseen by its Board of Directors, The Eparchy Board.
The Eparchy Board consists of seven directors invited to join by our Bishop. The Eparchy Board’s directors bring their leadership skills, business acumen, good faith, and commitment to their role.
The Eparchy Board assists our Bishop in his role as guardian and administrator of the Eparchy. Together with The Eparchy Board, the Bishop examines and seeks their advice on capital works proposals, budgets, and finance planning. In consideration of this advice our Bishop will contribute to discussions and guide decisions in keeping with the teachings of our Church, Cannon law and the spirit of the Gospel.
Bishop Rabbat is the third Eparch of Australia, New Zealand and All Oceania. He worked as a chemical engineer before entering the seminary in Lebanon, in 1989. Bishop Rabbat was ordained in 1994 and served at St Anthony the Great Church, in Achrafieh, Lebanon. He has licentiates in Philosophy and Theology.
In 1995 Bishop Rabbat returned to America to serve at St Michael the Archangel in Indiana. In 2000 he served at St John the Baptist and Holy Saviour Mission Churches in Illinois. In 2005 Bishop Rabbat was elected Rector of the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Boston. In 2011 Bishop Rabbat was confirmed as Eparch of the Melkite Church in Australia, New Zealand and All Oceania.
Bishop Rabbat is a member of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and The Bishops Commission for Ecumenism and Inter-religious Relations. Bishop Rabbat is also the President of the Australasian-Middle East Christian Apostolic Churches.
